I'm very excited and honored to be joining this group!
I currently work as an operations manager & a revenue cycle manager in a private medical practice. I have desired to join a specific hospital closer to my home and with a great employee culture. I have been applying to this hospital for the manager of operations roles and even the director of operations (because I believe I have transferrable skills) for over a year with no call for an interview. I thought perhaps it was my resume, so I had it re-done professionally, and still, no change.
I am humbly requesting your advice on what is it that I am doing or not doing. I think my resume looks great, but I could be wrong. I would appreciate any help!

How many applications have you submitted in the last year? Are you applying to multiple jobs under the same department or are they all different departments?
I will tell you that the difference between a private practice and a hospital system is significant and they are unlikely to hire you directly into a leadership position with your current experience. You probably need to start a little lower in the hierarchy, get a couple of years of hospital-specific experience, and then leverage your background to show you are the most qualified for an internal promotion into leadership. If they have a good employee culture, they are likely very supportive of career advancement.

ive been applying to Northwell health which has many locations. I’ve submitted at least 30-40 applications since last year. They’re in different departments, and some positions are sub-divisions (outpatient).
I've seen people apply for every job opening in a specific department and it usually just aggravates the hiring manager so they start automatically moving that application to the reject pile. What you're describing is perfectly normal for a big system.
If you could handle what might amount to a lateral move or even a step back, I think you'd be very competitive at a slightly lower level in a big organization. With your background it wouldn't take long for you to gain the system-specific knowledge because you already understand the general concepts and issues in the field. You'd actually have an advantage once you're an internal candidate because large systems tend to have specialists vs generalists. That doesn't always translate well as they move up the ladder, but also doesn't stop employee-centric companies from prioritizing internal hires for leadership roles.
Another option might be to check into local professional networking opportunities. If someone already knows you and has a positive opinion, they'll at least take a second look or even add you to the interview list as a professional courtesy. Once you get the interview, you have your chance to win over the entire hiring panel.
I appreciate all this information - it’s the hard truth that probably explains why I’m not getting any call back. Truth is, I have never even considered this option.
