Hi I’m new!
Hi Ladies! My name is Nikki and I am new to Fairy God Boss. I joined because I am struggling with finding a new role that is more “me”. I feel like a jack of all trades/master of none. I feel like my resume isn’t linear (which can be argued as a strength as well?) Looking for new connections who may feel the same or have experience narrowing down. I currently am a supply chain specialist and am looking for a role that is less transactional and more people oriented!
Hi, Nikki! I have had a similar feeling. I just arrived here today and look forward to traveling this path together.
Hi Nikki! Welcome.
I'm a former supply chain exec turned career coach but I also manage a niche recruiting business. The key is to get clear on what you want. And by that, I don't mean an exact job title, function or industry (although that could help) but really what brings you fulfillment - You mentioned a client facing role: What is it about being in front of the customer that brings you joy?
Here are some additional tips below:
Outline what your role exactly does? Supply Chain Specialist can mean different things at different companies.
Identify the aspects of your current or previous jobs that you enjoyed vs the aspects that you did not.
Narrow down a pool of roles or role types that you are interested and where you can experience those aspects about the job that you love. Do you want to stay in the supply chain or pivot in a different function or industry?
Identify the transferable skills in your resume that you can take to your new role then market yourself by highlighting your experience and subject matter expertise in those specific skills.
Hope this helps!
Dena
Thank you, Dena!
Hi Nikki! Welcome :) I recently started feeling like this as well - I feel that my resume speaks "marketing generalist" and in hindsight, I wished I 'owned' more specific tasks in my last positions. I am struggling to highlight specific skills, and working my way through it. There are ways I've realized you can tweak your resume and skills to align up with different job descriptions...perhaps in your line of work you can talk about team work and using your people skills to benefit the company internally, then spin to how you can apply those skills and interactions in a more client-facing role, or externally (if that's what you mean by 'people oriented'?) I wish I had better advice, but as someone struggling with a similar issue, I feel you!
Love this! Thank you! You are definitely not alone either.
