How to find your Way as a Job Seeker
Job seekers all take different paths, some do the spontaneous while others have a plan. If you are thinking about switching careers, it's important to listen to your gut about what feels right or not. And looking for a fresh or new start in a new industry means doing your homework, digging deep into learning your strength and transferrable skills. It starts with learning about you, first.
After doing some research, taking the Myers Briggs or other strength assessments head over to https://www.onetonline.org/ which is developed to teach you about different jobs. Once you decide on job titles in an industry you like you can begin to network.
It's important to work with a mentor, career coach or professional who can help you organize your past and skills and build confidence to direct them plus verbally share them toward a new role.
The key and underlying characteristic that is crucial is your mindset. Employers pick up on a "can do" attitude and openess to learn what you don't know.
Lastly, applying once to a job and then waiting is not a plan. However, choosing 5 -6 companies, finding their employees on LinkedIn, asking for a coffee chat or informational interview is a stronger way for you to get your resume to the right person and being referred by an internal person.
The up and downs of job searching can be exhausting, no doubt. Take some breaks and give yourself something to look forward to each day. Be patient as planting those seeds and meeting new people will blossom. In fact a colleague of mine did this approach and she landed a job offer in 30 days. And utilized LinkedIn using the premium, which is free for one month! (wink, wink)
The holidays is still a good time to land a job. I transferred to a new position and was hired by December 30 cause training was starting Jan. 5th, when I was in corporate. So, don't give up on your potential dream job over the holidays.
