Hi, I am excited to have found this group.
I currently work full-time but am also involved with a fairly new non-profit group that's in the beginning stages of organizing local meetups for professional women. Additionally, I am now trying to help my daughter with her aspirations in fashion.
Instagram is a great source for showing off those fashion designs. I love seeing how creative people can be with clothes and accessories. I love to see what people do for holiday decorations as well.
Hi Terri, her plan is to utilize Instagram but she's not quite ready yet. However, I can always come back to this post to share her launch information so interested members can see what she's up to.
Welcome! I'm curious about your daughter, tell me more about it. I love fashion :)
Hi Cinzia, sure ... my daughter is a a very creative person who enjoys the arts. When she was about 10 years old I noticed she was more interested in using things around her to create what she wanted. She quickly got bored with things we bought fir her. As a little girl, like most girls, she played with baby dolls and learn to braid the dolls' hair. Not long after, she began cutting and hand sewing their clothes.
When she was 12, I brought her to a class to learn how to crochet and she took off and started crocheting everything she thought she could. We were most impressed when she crocheted a booksack and then crocheted yarn into her doll's hair to change the color. But she continued our wing together material for doll clothes.
So when she was 14, I enrolled her in a sewing class that was 90% adults, I wanted to challenge her. Guess what, she kept up with those adults and began sewing her own clothes. But this stuff seemed to come easy for her so she didn't comprehend she had a talent and when she crocheted or sewed something, she would eventually take it apart and reuse material to make something else.
When my daughter entered high school, I noticed she was good at drawing. She never had formal training but she was pretty good at drawing faces, not exact but close enough. I started showing her pictures of thing and asking her to draw it, and she did. She always said she was going to college for fashion but that's just not an industry here and she doesn't want to move away. She's in college now and is pursuing a degree in computer science to design software.
We figured we could take our time and start learning to build a business while she's in school. By the time she finish school and get employment experience in the industry, she should have enough exposure to completely take over and let her imagination run wild.
Basically, I see what she's excited about and want to do my part to not only encourage her, but help her to succeed. Our generation received a lot of encouragement but not a lot of guidance. I want to change that.
