Hello ladies!
I’m not a person who has ever begged (except for the Cubs to win the World Series) for anything or asked for help (stubbornness), especially to strangers, but I’m really begging for some help.
I lost my position of 5 years in Feb 2018 and since then, I’ve interviewed for 100s of jobs, sent resumes out for 1000s of positions, and have only been hired twice - the 1st was a seasonal position that didn’t rehire last year due to the Pandemic, and the 2nd was finally a “decent” position that I had to unfortunately resign from 2 months later due to a family emergency that resulted in me having to move out of state.
The worst part of this nightmare is that I am extremely qualified and willing, ready, and able to work immediately, but feel my qualifications, and years of hard work, aren’t as beneficial as I thought they were when this started 3 years ago. A short summary of my background:
1. I earned my law degree in 2012, but I am not (yet) licensed;
2. I have experience working in several areas of law, but mostly worked in personal injury - both plaintiff and insurance defense sides - and criminal; also experienced in federal courts & in multiple state courts;
3. Prior to law school I worked for an insurance company for 8 years and was licensed for 5 of those;
4. I was a security guard for an outdoor concert venue so I have a thick skin, can handle stressful issues/confrontations and I’m not afraid to be in the thick of things.
I grew up in Indiana, just north of Indianapolis but now live in northern Minnesota, about 4 hours north of the Twin cities. Needless to say, the job market here is completely opposite of where I used to live and is extremely limited.
I apologize for the lengthy post, but if anyone has any suggestions, is hiring or knows anyone that is hiring, I will gladly take all the help that I can get! And I am more than happy to send my resume out to anyone as well. Looking forward to speaking with anyone in the future and hope everyone has a great rest of the week!
I met an attorney Julie Goldberg that does immigration law and really needs help. She is very kind and has offices all over the country. I’d reach out, explain your qualifications and situation to see if she can put you to work. goldbergimmigration.com
I also have a friend who works in a patent law firm doing research without having passed the bar.
Thank you so much! Mind if I reference your name? You cans send me a private message if you’d like, but I will absolutely understand if you’d rather stay anonymous.
You are welcome to connect with me on LinkedIn. I have an extensive network on LinkedIn and I'm happy to connect you with someone that I might know who is a hiring manager. https://www.linkedin.com/in/productexecutive/
Some Random Thoughts:
There are free or very inexpensive online classes you can take from Google and Amazon to skill up in project management, data analytics, IT support, Amazon Cloud security. If you are looking to skill-up in a tech field.
You have a background in law. Have you looked at working at a law tech company. Many tech/startup companies like to hire subject matter experts as sales engineers, customer care support, product people. Here is a list of some of the law Tech companies: https://angel.co/legal-tech-1
Thank you Barb I will connect with you today. And I’m not sure what happened but all of you ladies must be good luck!!!! About 5 hours after I made this post, I received an email from a legal recruiter about a remote long term temporary project reviewing contracts & other legal documents and the project starts Tuesday! ? I’ve attempted to get 1 of these positions several times, but either they fill up too fast or the company wants someone who is licensed as well.
So I got lucky (thanks to you!) to get this project and hope it can turn into something more permanent!!
Hello Tricia - are you working at all now? If you are looking for something to do while you are searching for jobs, have you looked at document review companies? They are looking for people with law degrees to review documents that law firms don't have the staff to handle. I know someone that ended his personal practice and does this full time....makes somewhere around $20-$25/hour works only remotely and can set his own hours. Also FEMA through their SBA office is hiring people with law degrees to help with the distribution of loans. It is also a remote opportunity and full time. I hope this helps!
also christoper grasso found in linked in, he runs a great lead list and you can post your profile
Good morning Trista!
I know you situation quite well! Actually, it is so familiar with a few minor tweaks it would be mine
I lost my career 12/2016, at the same time, I had family .medical emergencies , my stepson passed away, and it seemed like the world was ending.
I went through a great deal of soul searching, personal healing, and lots of career development. It took 4 years and 3 months to finally land the job of my dreams!
I too had been offered several jobs only due them to be rescinded for various reasons none having to do with me.
If you would like to reach out to me for detail ideas please do not hesitate to reach out to me. My email address is below I will happily share to lessen your burden!

Be well,
Donna
Thank you as well Donna! One of the reasons I hadn’t posted this earlier was because I know there are probably a ton of other people in my situation and even worse, so I didn’t want to come off as ungrateful or “whiny” etc. In hindsight, I should have posted sooner to have a shoulder similar to mine, such as yours, to lean on for advice. Thank you for your contact into and I will absolutely reach out to you today!
