Defeated and Laid Off Again
I have to say I feel so defeated right now. I was laid off again during the pandemic and I am not finding any job opportunities that align with my skillset. Does anyone have any good news about people find a job right now? I am just looking for a little hope.
I have my eye on certain companies so its been hard for me too. The good thing is I have seen so much more activity in 2021 than 2020. It seems like companies are finally hiring again. Hang in there :)
My good news is that my startup hired two senior people in Dec, we are on schedule to hire an external PR/Communication firm next week and a marketing contractor in the next few weeks, so that's a little tiny bright spot :)
Some suggestions (that you may have already done and some of these are just random ideas)
1. see about joining a specialty/boutique staffing firm in the marketing space. There is a company here in the greater Denver area who staffs top-quality marketing folks. They have a great reputation and has remained busy through the pandemic. You're probably not in the Denver area but if you are, I'm happy to share the name.
2- set up your own company and find clients which I know can sound daunting but there are plenty of company's who only hire contractors (like mine)
3. depending on your experience in digital marketing, you could lean to more technical side in the digital marketing space (data management, CRM analyst etc) if you have that experience. That might open some more jobs.
It's been a very tough job market. Keep looking and something will turn up ( I am in the same position as you are). It takes a lot of work - lots of networking, unsolicited emails and many resume revisions. There are positions out there - make sure you know your value and are able to communicate your brand to others.
@Brooke Tannehill, I know how you feel. I was laid off in the middle of the pandemic with about 2,000 other people. I have a friend and co-worker of over 20 years. He was able to parlay a contract position with a client he was working for. You never know what's in store for you. A past client you make have worked for may just want to use your expertise and pay you directly instead of using a company. There is hope out there and you are not alone.
Thank you so much for this. Yeah I just keep on hearing that I am overqualified and they are looking for someone more junior. I will continue to reach out and hope for a bright future.
