Interviewing Roller Coaster
Hi everyone! I had a job interview 3 weeks ago with a corporate recruiter and another with the hiring manager a few days later. I took multiple assessments for personality, analytical skills etc. I was originally told that I'd be notified with a decision either way within a week. A week later, I heard from the hiring manager who asked for 2 samples of papers I wrote for grad school to display my writing abilities. I sent the papers over but I haven't heard any feedback. The corporate recruiter reached out one more time, another week later, to let me know that I'm an excellent candidate but they've added 3 more interviews and I'll be hearing back as soon as they are able to make a decision. I feel as though this is sending a negative message to us candidates awaiting news, any news. Are these red flags real or am I being overly critical of the situation? Interviewing is such a roller coaster of emotions! Thanks new FGB friends. I hope you are all doing well. I'd love to connect as well. I'm new here.
Whatever you do, keep doing your search! Do not stop until the first day you begin your job. You'll make yourself nuts trying to figure out what's happening on their end.
I would say the hiring process is different for every position. If this is a entry level yes over kill but obviously you've applied to a high level management position and they might want to make sure the people who will be your peers get a chance to speak with you.
Hi Amy, Stay postive as the interview process has change due to Covid and now quite long vs years ago. In my prior job I had 10 interviews and a simulation. But you have made it through a number of levels so looks like you are in the running!! Other wise they would not have put you through there process. Good luck and I am praying you land this job!!
Hi and welcome Amy. Congratulations on the interview! A random thought that came to me... Perhaps they are in love with you already... but to be fair have to interview a set of people?
Either way, I know it's frustrating. I've been at my job now over 18 years. And the thought of having to interview again at my age (I'll be 53 next month)... UGH.
All the best!
Great perspective Paulla! Thank you! The anxiety of it all can be a lot to handle and I always love to get a different view. Thanks!
Thanks Barb! It is a great feeling that I'm still in the running. I'm wondering why they are adding 3 additional candidates to be interviewed if they have a pool of "excellent candidates" with the first group of interviewees. I've found in my experience, the more candidates I interview, the harder it is to make a decision. I'm worried they're just looking for "the perfect candidate" and that's sends warning signs to me about the level of perfection expected by the hiring manager. Will the hiring manager be impossible to work for?
Was their communication good regarding the number of interviews? No
Did the number of interviews required for the job change mid-hiring-process? Maybe
Has this same thing happened to me? Yes and quite often.
I always tried to look at situations like this as a good thing:
"They think I was such a great candidate that they want to introduce me to more people" Or "I'm such a great candidate that more people need to weigh in on hiring me so they can pay me more money" (which has happened to me more than once).
Whatever the reason, it's a great thing that you are still in the running.
