Hi everyone,
I would love your advice. My background includes 15 years of various healthcare product management roles in the managed care, prescriber and consumer space. I left that industry about 10 yrs ago, went back to school and obtained my nursing degree, and have worked about 3.5 yrs in acute care and public health/school nursing. For my next role, I’d like to bring all of these experiences together to improve the patient healthcare experience, either in an agency role, health insurer or similar company relating to innovation or consumer/patient experience.
Given a somewhat disjointed career path, along with a fairly significant 10 yr gap since my last corporate role (during which time I did a mix of consulting, philanthropy work and went to school), how would you structure my resume? I have a large skills section at the beginning, followed by work, education & volunteer experience, and if you really look at it, you can see how all of the dates come together, but I’m not sure anyone really looks at it & instead questions what I did all that time. I did use a professional resume writer a few months ago to help address this, but based on lackluster results so far (barely an interview), I feel a little lost on how to best proceed. Any suggestions?
Thanks in advance for your help!
I would be inclined to address the time directly, with a statement about learning and how you are now recharged and prepared to bring your skills, experience, and education together in your next role.
I think your background is very interesting and would suggest looking at what expertise you want to market yourself along with the types of companies you are looking to join. I work in architecture and I know that the top global architecture firms hire consultants in the healthcare industry to help on marketing and design solutions for their clients in hospitals and science centers. Not sure what type of companies you are looking for but wanted to let you know you have options.
Wow, interesting to hear there are ‘options’ that compass architecture, healthcare and maybe education / design; there are not enough opportunities to learn about the types of jobs one can do with certain skills; thank you adding that.
If you connect with me on linked in, I'd be happy to review your resume and see if I have any suggestions.
Will do - Thanks so much!
