Sophisticated Job Recruiter Scam
Hello all - There's a sophisticated recruiting scam going on. Apparently it has been around for a while but has gained a lot of steam post Covid-19. The company name on the email may vary (mine came from EliteX Hiring) but the message is the same. It's well written and the website will seem, at first glance, to be legit. First contact indicates they found your resume and have a potential client who is interested. They ask for an updated resume. Then they claim the resume will not parse in their candidate management system (ATS) and ask you to review it via a resume service (names can vary, mine was OptimisedResume.) Bottom line, it's a scam. After you purchase the resume review, the interview is cancelled. They have your funds, you've lost time, money and have been preyed on in the worst of times. Here is the most common text of the email scam:
"I am reaching out to see if you would be interested in exploring new opportunities. I am Executive Recruiter of EliteX Hiring Inc. Our client has retained us to fill various senior-level positions in one of their recent acquisitions. I was referred to you by an outside talent sourcing firm and based on your previous experience I think you are a very credible candidate.
If you are interested in learning more, please reply back to this email with an updated copy of your resume and I will connect you with the recruiter leading this project and schedule an introductory call.
Best Regards,
Stephen Merchant
Senior Executive Recruiter

Wishing you all safe and sound job hunting!
omg! I just got the follow-up interview asking me to go through the same resume website. Thank you for posting this, I was so confused when I received this email.
It's so frustrating to know there are so many people looking to scam people down on their luck and looking for jobs.
It's really amazing the depths that some will sink to scam people. When I received the resume "feedback" I went through a moment of doubt (sadness, fear, frustration) thinking that my resume was not passing the ATS protocols even though I done all the work to make sure it was. Ugh! I shared the scam far and wide - share it with those you know because it's sophisticated which makes it easier to fall for.
Wow! That really does look legit! Sorry you got scammed- how awful.
