I just wanted to post something to recruiters, hiring managers, and anyone who is interviewing someone.

I just finished a maternity leave and coming out of some postpartum blues. I have been applying for jobs to do remotely due to the pandemic. Now as vaccines are coming, I have also been applying for normal on site jobs. I have interviewed a lot, and have gotten rejections a lot. The rejections don't hurt me. But the lack of followup from many recruiters. One recruiter actually said they will followup with me as to why I was rejected and would help me in the future. They never did even after I contacted them myself believing them. Another recruiter interviewed me, thought I was great, then said they are looking for another candidate a few days later. Some other recruiter emailed me a job description and it was honestly a great fit. I said I want to apply asap. They emailed back they needed 5 years of experience. That was never listed in the job description, why? It brought down my whole day. Another company checked my references and said I was an excellent candidate and my references were positive. Then they gave the offer to someone else and never explained why even when I asked numerous times. Ghosting is also a popular tactic to ignore people. Perhaps it is my post partum hormones but I am requesting here for recruiters, hiring managers, and anyone else to act like humans that we used to be. Please don't ghost, gaslight, or other political tactics. Please followup with a good or even decent candidate. Your candidates, these interviewees, are people too with families and lives and struggles. They could be the neighbor down the street you never met. Or someone you will run into 5 years from now that could have helped you. Who knows? After everything this world has gone through this past year, please I request to step up your empathy and reach out to provide your candidate some emotional closure on a rejection and not use it as an some opportunistic situation for yourself to take advantage of someone else's situation. Take care of each other. We only have one world we all live in these days.

Thank you for sharing your wonderful e experiences. I too have had similar experiences in the past, but also have been contacted by recruiters who I have received offers and git hired! But the ghosting happens far too often! It’s unprofessional and it needs to stop!

If there's no followup at all and poor recruiting practices then you know what, I could sue you anyway. It's better to end a conversation about a job with some closure even a generic one rather than the situations the original poster gave.

Thank you for your comments, but when did HR go so far left? I agree it is a reflection on the company, & it is probably not a good fit for you!

I hear what you’re saying but this happens to everyone . Maybe you need a bigger platform to express yourself but this has been ongoing for years. I’m not trying to be callous but this is how they are .

How about the companies that take months to start interviewing and when you get another job and inform them that you accepted another offer they don’t even have the courtesy to respond back that says congratulations. It is like some jilted ex who says I didn’t want you anyway even though the company posts the job 4 months ago. Then there are the companies that keep posting the same job like every three months. Either they don’t hire well or no one wants to stay. They need to get the clue. We actually notice this same job again and again.

Getting a job these days is a lot like dating and the bad dating experiences

You can say that again! I much prefer a rejection over being ghosted.

I hear what you're saying. Just know, you have value and worth. I believe that if you put yourself out there then the right opportunity will present itself. It may take some patience on your part, but it will happen for you!
