I went through three rounds of interviews and thought I had this in the bag based on the feedback from the recruiter.
"The hiring manager loves you! She thinks you're perfect for the role, a great fit!"
Then I got the call yesterday that I didn't get the job. Why? Because one of the marketing managers I had met with (internal client) told the hiring manager that I said that "I don't follow directions, and I don't care about attention to detail".
Why would someone lie to the hiring manager? First of all, who in their right mind would even say anything like that in an interview? Second, I don't have any connections to this marketing manager - I looked her up on LinkedIn and Facebook.
I'm so pissed off, but feel like I dodged a bullet. Just had to vent. I can't believe this actually goes on in the professional world.
Sadly back stabbers are every where, that manager probably wanted someone they knew to get the job.
This person may have been intimidated by you or had a friend she was trying to have hired. Anyway you look at it, if the team and manager bend to this person's opinion without weighing everything then you are right, you dodged a bullet because she would have been relentless in trying to get you out.
Even when asked to give a professional recommendation for someone who was totally incompetent I didn't bad mouth them.
I said she had great potential for growth.
What an odd comment for this marketing manager to make, all from an interview. We’re you given a work sample as part of your screening? I’m not understanding how a conversation resulted in: not filling directions and criticism about attention to detail.
Sorry to hear this happened but I agree that you dodged a bullet.
To either have someone flat out lie or so completely misconstrue what you said - before they even know you - is beyond. Can you imagine what working with that person would be like?
That is so disappointing. I think you totally dodged a bullet.
So sorry to hear. The recruiter was lying, and making it up. Bottom line. She wanted you to have a "soft landing" by not giving you the brutal "truth" of what the marketing manager said.
Dodged bullet!
Do you know the recruiter or the marketing manager? If you don't, I can't imagine why you would make such a comment.
