Hi all,

Ive been affected by the layoffs at Showtime last month, as they're now under the guise of Paramount Plus. I have been looking for a new job frantically for a month now, I've even had my resume revamped by a resume service and the rejection emails just keep coming. I feel entirely defeated...my self worth is literally in the garbage and I don't know what to do. I'm seeking any role in Customer service, specifically as a supervisor, or even anything in fraud prevention (mainly chargebacks/disputes) and the pickings for this seem to be slim. As a parent of a 3-year old, it's even harder to find the right role where it's in alignment with me still being able to be present for my kid. My previous role had the right amount of balance and I'm afraid I'm not going to find that. Or anything at this point and it's mentally taxing. I've been on an emotional roller-coaster for a month. Idk what I'm seeking in this post aside from support. I've searched mainly on LinkedIn (which feels like a waste of time) & Indeed, but I've come across scams on Indeed on some of the roles I was excited to apply for. If you happen to know of any other job boards/any advice I'd be more than happy to take heed. Thanks for listening!

I feel like I will be a contrarian amongst those here. As I always found my jobs through recruiters reaching out to me via LinkedIn to present opportunities or through my application submittances to jobs. On LinkedIn, I have made sure to enable my "job seeker status" and open my privacy settings to allow people to message me that are not currently connected to me. This allows recruiters to contact me whenever they are able to. People would say that common sense but I still feel it needs to be shared. There are volunteer companies that center around helping mothers reenter the workforce such as," mom relaunch" that you could enroll in and what this would do is give you agency and occupy some space in your mind as youre continuing to look for work. As well as have them review your resume. As, although, I know you shared you had your resume reviewed by a resume service already. It doesn't hurt to have additional review of it for assurance. Alternatively looking into other places to volunteer that speak to you on sites such as, volunteer match can help. Having volunteer experience on your resume especially after being laid off looks positively to potential employers. As it shows that you were remaining active and we're willing to be apart of something bigger than you without the need of compensation at the helm of it. Please don't give into the despair of your situation permanently. I say as allowing yourself to feel everything you do is important in order to get past it and be able to get back to your spiritual center so you can refocus and keep strong. Life is hard especially now and you are not alone. P.S. I hope you were able to apply for unemployment as being laid off does grant you eligibility!

I don’t know anyone in the customer service field. I encourage you to network and see if anyone in your network is aware of opportunities. Good luck.

Chin up, my first month applying was a complete wash, I felt like. I was applying into the ether but finding more tailored job boards that are curated for POC and Women has definitely increased my response rate. It's really and truly a number's game and a bit of luck, hang in there.

Are you networking within LinkedIn or are you spending your time scrolling through job boards (which are repeats of each other)? Use your connections, let them know what you're up to via individual messages on LI. You can template it, but leave room to customize each one. Start the convo. See where it goes. The head of LI was on the Today show this week and said their stats now show that most people are getting jobs through their 10 closest connections of their first level connections. I found that interesting.

I was laid off back in June and as other suggest it takes awhile to commence a momentum. Connections are key and utilize all of them in the business. I find that finding positions on job boards and applying directly on the company's website is achieving better results than being in a sea of other Indeed submission. In addition, Indeed often reaches out stating this employer wants you to take this test. Be warned they aren't a fair reflection of your skills especially if you're at a higher level and had direct reports working on projects. The questions they ask to show your expertise are often what does this symbol mean something that as a director you would have a strategist implementing. Above all, you need to stay positive. It's hard and I've been going through this since June. When you start feeling defeated, it comes across in your interviews. You need to show why you are the right fit rather than you need a job. Wishing you all the best!

It takes awhile to build the momentum and flow of responses. Give it a bit more time.

Hang in there. In entertainment and media, your network is invaluable. That's a great source of jobs.

I know a ton of people who are in the job market right now, smart, talented and fierce and barely getting a nibble. This isn't about you, you're doing everything right. We're just in a buyer's market right now. Keep believing in yourself and don't give up.

so Sorry for what you’re going through! Look at themuse.com for great job search advice. as another post said, a month is not a long time- you’ll find something! spend time expanding your LinkedIn network, not just applying. Give yourself a break sometimes. Find time to enjoy this window of freedom (‘fun employment!’). It will go by sooner than you think. it’s going to be alright, the right job will surface!! Stay strong, Mamma, you got this!!!
