Health insurance during unemployment

I have been laid off since March and it's technically furlough? Since the job is ours wherever our school reopens. Through our union we were blessed enough to have our company keep our health insurance till the end of July. Come August 1, I've got no idea what's going to happen because we normally start school again in August. I'm in Ohio and I was just wondering for anyone not working or self employed, are there any good places to find decent health insurance that's not crazy expensive? I looked at cobra and almost fell over, for one month in Ohio it's projected to be upwards of $600 and that's probably the bare minimum coverage. Also having asthma may make it more expensive, since it's a preexisting condition and I take meds for it. Waiting to hear from HR at my company to find out what their plan is, I just wanted to get a jump to see if anyone has found affordable independent healthcare recently.

The process of finding health insurance after being laid off was really difficult and frustrating for me too. I'm in Illinois. I looked at Cobra and the Healthcare Marketplace and finally settled on a short term (6 month) plan in the hopes that I will have a full time job, with benefits, before then. The short term plan offered the best coverage at the most affordable price. I found a healthcare broker, so to speak, who weighed my options for me. Happy to pass along her contact, if you like!

Hello Devney, I’m in NY state and I’ve been looking but not finding anything reasonably affordable.
