Breaking into New Role
Hello,
I just joined today, and I am so thankful I have found this amazing platform. I am interested in switching lanes with my career. I am currently a Marketing Specialist with 4 years of experience, but I would like my next role to be more of an Analyst role. I have analytical experience, but most of it has been through my MBA program. How should I position myself to that Marketing Analyst role?
Excellent suggestions.
In addition, you can seek out experience either through volunteer or after-hours freelancing gigs. You might be able to assist local startups for a low wage as an employee. As a freelancer you could choose a variety of payment options . Small businesses could be very grateful for your assistance. It could result in multiple references and even a job offer.
I didn't even think of this option. Thank you for the suggestion. I'll do some research.
You're very welcome.
I actually found this amazing website with a volunteer Marketing Analyst position. Wow thank you again!

Is there potential to move into more analytics at your present location? have you been able to share your interest with your current manager or director?
If your MBA program has you moving forward with analytic training or projects, ask your highest level of analytic leader for an informational interview and show them your work. Ask how such training could be used to serve the organization, and what characteristics leaders look for in analytic talent. They will remember you when that next opening occurs. If they don't, start your stealth search. You have skills that are going to be very marketable.
I am going to speak to my manager about moving into a more analytical role, during my annual review. At the moment there is a Marketing Manager that focuses solely on analytics, and we are a small team(3 people). At the moment it doesn't seem like there is an opportunity to take on more of an analytical role. I completed my MBA program back in 2018 and have several examples of analytical projects that I completed. Thank you so much for this advice, I'm going to reach back out to my professors to see how to leverage those projects. Thank you for your help!
If your MBA school has a career center, a lot of those still help alumni for free. They might have helpful connections or advice.
That's great advice. I will look up the career center.
