Hi, I'm in the pre-tirement age of 61..no job offers after 10 months.
Has anyone found a job recently in this age range?
I've had 2 long-term jobs one of 22 years and the most recent 18 years. I had major burnout with the last job. My resume job title is Operations specialist with a broad range of skills, at this point in my life I'm looking for an un-complicated job working from home. Any advice?
Signed,
Discouraged AEW (aged experienced worker)
I'm not sure any current openings are relevant to you, but keep an eye on https://torticity.com/company/careers/. We are growing and have remote positions
I'm 67. I freelance so I'm not really looking for a staff role, but my clients are always asking me to come on staff, and I get a lot of (company-based) recruiters reaching out trying to entice me into a staff role. But my job and skill set are pretty niched, so I imagine that's why they are inclined to be more age-blind.
Hi Please don't be discouraged. I'm 61 and I'm a licensed clinical social worker, also with 22 years of experience. I just found a remote job as a clinical supervisor at a small agency. I'd been interviewing for jobs at this level for 3 months, and had numerous interviews but no offers. This turned out to be the perfect fit because it is 100% remote. I felt discouraged and was getting close to considering jobs outside the original parameters I had set for myself, then I got this offer. Please keep looking even though the process is brutal. I totally get it.
Unfortunately, I'm on the other end of the scale (17 with plans to earn a BSc but little work experience) and can't offer much advice but I really hope you manage to find something soon!
Maybe you could try being a paid content writer until something comes through? Sharing tips, tricks or any beneficial knowledge you have with others? Or a Customer Service Rep?
I think that is what I am experiencing right now. I am employed but wanting to find a new opportunity. I am not even being looked at. I know I have the experience, the education, even certifications. I am beginning to wonder if it is my age (58).
I've always wondered if I'd have more bites if I took my same resume with my very gendered and changed it to my initials.
A lot of businesses are made by people your age, something to consider.
I'm 65+ and keep my resume focused on a very niche area and obtained certifications and licenses to place me in the expert category in order to make top dollar.
My husband started a state job in his mid-60s with a much lower level of responsibility/difficulty (and pay). He can't work from home, but he's in his 70s now and still going strong (with several promotions since he started). There are places that will value what you bring to the table. You might have to think creatively and define your bottom line for money and responsibility level. If I weren't making substantially more money, he wouldn't have been able to take almost a 50% pay cut, but his previous position was causing health issues from the stress. He was able to file for social security a couple of years later, so between his promotions and ss, he's bringing home more now than he did before and stress levels much more manageable. Good luck!
Thanks for the encouraging post!
