Sick of Retail!
Hey guys!
I’m a twenty five year old from New York with two years of retail under my belt. My dream is to be able to work in the editorial field. I know it’s a common dream, but I feel absolutely stuck in retail.
I’m great at customer service, so I was hoping to translate that into an administrative job just to get my foot in the door. But even that won’t seem to work. Does anyone have any advice for someone needing to change career paths? If it helps, I graduated from college in 2017 with a degree in English.
You could look at Rebecca Webber's Freelance work and check out her podcast in order to get some content in order you can start submitting to employers if you don't have that already. I also recommend the Society of Professional Journalists Freelance community and the International Communities on Facebook and the actual SPJ organization. Also, check out Media Bistro for listings in addition to the other job boards. I'm in a similar rut when looking for something permanent instead of temp. I'm 24.
Eep! Thank you for your advice! I’ll definitely take that into consideration ?
Same issue different industry! i am burn out with basic customer service. But I have seen a plethora of remote and or contract jobs for editors. Have you written for or tried some of the "pay per article" positions? There are remote jobs that maybe you could pick up on the side to build your experience without actually leaving your home! Check out https://remote.co/remote-jobs/online-editing/!!!!! Blessings!
I didn’t consider a remote job. I’ve definitely always been taught that the only legitimate job is one outside the home ? In any case, thank you!
