Hello all!
I am new to the group and happy to have found a job board/community like this. Currently, I am planning to go back to school for my Masters degree (Fall ‘24), but in the meantime, finding work has been just as difficult as everyone’s been describing. Even for the most “simple” roles, or ones I’m overqualified for, it hasn’t panned out. I was laid off back at the end of Nov. / early Dec, suddenly and unexpectedly, which has been stressful. Typically in between roles until I landed something, I’d serve or do a role in hospitality to pay my bills, but even that has been difficult (with the level of labor expected to the lack of tips, to now tips only being on check). My ideal role & my experience would be a Community, Administrative, Account or Content Manager, or Client, Brand or Project Management — with a company that has a great culture; but I’m also open to Executive Assistant or Customer Service Roles, just so I can have some security in finances right now. I am pretty agile in learning what I’m not skilled in as of yet, so I’m open to learn. Remote is best case scenario, however, I’ve applied near my home too just to broaden my options. Does anyone have any recommendations on what I could do? Thank you!
You may want to check on https://www.flexjobs.com. They have all types of openings from companies which have been vetted.
thanks, this is a paid service?
Yes, there is a small fee and there are different options for the length of the membership.
Since you are returning to school, check first with the Career Development organization. You may be eligible for the Federal Work-Study Program, which I did during the last year of my Doctoral program. They may have something you can do for the school or may have paid internships they can refer you to (outside the FWS program).
Thank you, I definitely have that in mind! Since I would be apart of the fall cohort, I still am looking for something in the meantime since that’s a bit of ways away.
Hi Krystal, best of luck with the search!
Do you have a watermarked (and locked-for-editing) portfolio you can share with your prospective employers digitally? That would be helpful in proving your current skillset.
Also, I would list volunteer experience on your resume, especially if yours aligns with any of your positions. I have mine at the end of my work experience, written just like my paid experience.
Thank you! It’s listed on my Linked In I believe, are you saying volunteering helps with landing a role?
For any context of in person roles, I live in Atlanta (north of) close to the city.
