How's your job search going now that we are in a new era of quarantined workers
In August I was conferred for my EdD. Since then I have been job searching, changed my strategy a few times, and am in the process of starting a business. I have debated as to whether or not I should stop my search due to Covid-19.
I wondered if the emails from recruiters were legitimate or old postings. However, today I heard from 2 recruiters and learned that they are doing things differently. I am now in the running for a technical writer position.
That said, I do think many employers are not hiring because they aren't sure how to navigate remotely. Curious, what has been your experience?
I hope everyone is doing well and hanging in there.
I’ve had several video and phone interviews for marketing/communications positions, but nothing has turned into a job offer. Several companies have postponed hiring until after the COVID crisis is over. No one knows if it will be months from now, or if companies will restart staffing when the curve flattens. It’s so hard to say.
I am hoping to hear about a third interview today or early next week. ?
Not only is it a weird time to be looking for a job, it’s a weird time to be doing anything.
Stay safe and well.
I heard for the recruiter this morning about the technical writing position. Unfortunately, the employer has decided to put this position on hold. Breathe, meditate, and have faith that the right position will present itself at the right time.
I agree with Rebeca E. Recruiters are seeking out people for job roles that fit what they are looking for based on resume listings and contacting potential candidates in an effort to produce a list of call backs once the COVID19 crisis flattens. Keep searching and interviewing and then you will definitely have you a list of options to choose from.
God Bless!
I am also hearing mixed things, however in my experience lately, a lot of recruiters are having conversations with candidates, but things aren’t progressing past that round.
The recruiters are doing their job, recruiting, but interviews with hiring managers has slowed. While I’ve received a note that there’s a hiring freeze from two companies (one automated and one personal), I’m guessing the rest of the roles are likely on hold as well until businesses know when things will ramp back up.
Just this week I was told that the role that was to be offered to me got closed to external candidates due to a hiring freeze. However, the company said when the freeze lifts they would like to find a role for me.
Good luck with the interview! I am in a similar boat and got invited to interview for a Sales Development Representative position at Interfolio not too long ago. I spruced up my resume after gaining a lot of traction and support on a different FGB thread about struggling to find a job as a recent Master’s grad. I worked hard and landed an initial phone interview and was skipped to an on-site interview after a brief phone screen. After my onsite interview, I got great feedback but felt uncomfortable that, as it often turns out, I am fairly over qualified for the position I applied to. Despite this, I remained interested in the organization and my background in International Higher Education and HR aligned directly with its functions. My onsite interview was earlier this month but we went into lockdown the week I was supposed to hear back. I’ve accepted that the organization, along with many others has probably entered a hiring freeze. Because of this, I’ve been searching for remote positions only and tutoring online to help with expenses. Here’s a helpful list of companies that are still hiring/ not currently hiring in case it’s helpful! https://candor.co/hiring-freezes/ Hopefully the company for the Technical Writer role is still hiring remotely and if not, don’t be afraid to keep looking for remote roles.
I'm getting very mixed signals. I think companies are still trying to determine their hiring strategy for the immediate future.
For instance, one company I'm pursuing deleted their entire 250+ job openings yesterday on their website. Gone. They are in the travel and insurance business so that may be why.
However, another company I follow has called me back for a third round interview, all being done on Zoom. They seem to have their act together and know how to adapt. They are a technology company, which makes sense.
Good luck on your interview!
Good luck on your third interview! Please let us know how it goes!
Thank you. I don't have an interview yet but it looks positive. Interesting results. Yes the tourism industries are having a hard time so am not surprised. But keep pushing through... and good luck with your interviews!
