Blackballed ?

I have worked in healthcare for over 20yrs. I have started looking for a new role due to a recent restructuring in my former company that resulted in me being layed off. I am wondering if I have been blackballed. Has anyone experienced employers ghosting you or not rounding back.

In this internet era where everything is an online application, it is impossible for a hiring manager to respond to every applicant. If they are using an ATS that scans resumes, they may not even see you resume or application. I wouldn't take it personally.

Welcome to my world. I to have over 20 yrs experience in another industry and have been applying for roles for 6+ months. I would say I get ghosted 40% of the time. You apply, have discussions with the recruiter, follow up, follow up and nothing. Complete waste of time. But, keep on keeping on!

Yes, unfortunately being ghosted by employers or recruiters is becoming more and more common. But, this isn't a reflection of you as much as it is about the people in the position to hire you. We assume that companies will be professional, responsive, and cordial because that is what they expect of candidates but it speaks more to the culture and the team within that particular company and should be a red flag. I recommend you go to Glassdoor.com and read the company reviews or the comments from other interviewing candidates and see if they received the same type of treatment. I'm also currently interviewing and I had a recruiter that was very assertive to get me interested in a new opportunity and I did a round of interviews and then his assertiveness became very passive and his follow-ups dropped off, and days would go by without any word. I had to reach out to him on several occasions just to get feedback only to be told they were still considering all candidates. Finally, after almost two weeks passed with no word and when "I" reached out to the recruiter again only to be told the company decided to move forward with someone else...WTH! Needless to say, I blasted the recruiter for his unprofessionalism by leading me on and keeping me interested in a role that was no longer an option for me and ghosting me for most of the duration of the interviewing process. Sadly, there are a lot of stories similar to mine but stay positive, remain focused and get back up when you get knocked down. There will always be another company and another opportunity waiting for you.

I'm having the same experience right now, although I'm not concerned about being blackballed. I've had four video interviews for a remote position. After the last one I didn't hear anything for 10 days so I contacted the HR person I had been dealing with, who told me that they hadn't made a decision yet, that they were definitely still interested in me, but that lots of people had been traveling and at conferences. Two weeks later, nothing. I emailed again, and have received no reply. I should add this HR person has been very responsive and even proactive about keeping me informed until now. It's a real disappointment but I've reached the point Jennifer mentioned: if this is how they operate, do I really want to work for them?

Tierre You may want to invest in hiring a professional reference checker to see what your former employer is saying about you. I'm not an attorney but in many states the employee (or former employee) can sue the former employer if they are impeding on your ability to secure future employment. This can be done by saying negative things about you to a potential employer. Bottom line - knowledge is power - know what is being said about you. Hope that helps.

Thank you for your response. Yes, I left on great terms. I will look to the future for great things to manifest.?

I have read articles and posts indicating that employer ghosting does exist. So does job seeker and employee ghosting. Do you have any reason to believe that your former employer would blacklist you? Did you leave on good terms? (FYI: Blacklisting is illegal in about 20 states.)

I understand your frustration. I, too, have worked in healthcare for 20 years. I am seeking to leave a hostile work (of course, not mentioning this in interviews) environment in a large metro area, and have been on promising interviews and follow up interviews (complete with my corresponding thank you for the interview emails.) only to get radio silence. I am trying to take the following attitude. Most employers are also putting a spin on the organization when interviewing, so if after a mutual expenditure of time on both sides, they can't even respond with a " thank you but we have decided to go in a different direction/ with a different candidate" email, can you just imagine the day to day culture of the organization?

Yes it happens or they reappear eventually to reject you
