Seeking Some Serious Advice!
Hi Ladies! I've been feeling very stuck in my job search. I've applied to 50+ jobs and have not heard back from a single one. Does anyone have any resume/cover letter advice? Has anyone ever worked with a career coach?
Thanks in advance!
Hi Allison, I would be happy to look at your resume or talk job search strategy with you. Feel free to message me.
Hello Allison! I have a friend in that area who's in entertainment and is a coach for creatives - I think you and she might be a good networking POCs - DM if you're up for a quick call and I'd be glad to connect you with her!
I too am looking for a career coach. I'm actually looking to change my career path a bit. Where would I go to find one?
Allison, since you're looking in the entertainment industry I'd definitely recommend putting your time into networking vs. pursuing job postings. Since you're already in the industry leverage the contacts you have, ask them to introduce you to others in the industry, invite associates for casual coffee meet-ups, attend the taping of live talk shows to make more contacts and get noticed.
Also leverage YouTube and other social media to build a platform that people want to engage with. Case in point: The Masked Singer unveiled a contestant last week that was known 100% through his YouTube channel. Not TV, not movies, not music...just through his talents on his YouTube channel. And he made it to a major TV show. Social media is powerful.
Good Luck!
I've helped many friends with resumes when they've had a job they were super excited about. Before applying, get someone to review the Job Description and your resume to make sure there is enough overlap.
The return on investment for job applications is low. Spend your time on roles you are well qualified for and use your letter/resume to outline, point by point how you can meet the companies needs.
Hi Karen! Thanks for the reply! My background is in local news, and I recently moved home to LA so I'm primarily looking for entertainment tv positions, or digital media.
I know there are quite a few career coaches in the community so I am certain you'll hear from one! I've looked at a ton of resumes in my career and best piece of advice is to be as achievement oriented (as opposed to task oriented) as possible. What types of roles are you looking for?
