I am looking to find a job after retiring from Federal Government. I am open to new opportunties and would love some coaching. I think my age is affecting positive responses to my job applications.
I have to share that resumes and job hunting changes pretty much at the speed of light these days. LOL! It. has to be sparse, quick hits of deep value. Given that I'm going to suggest some ideas
1. Write down the type of job you want with a list of activities. Get one of those inexpensive notebooks and write it all down.
2. Search "resume formats" on google...pick something fresh and new! Think brief. Remember, we are a twitter/text society. The hiring manager needs quick, short sentences. Like: Client service leader, solving issues and submitting root cause analysis for process improvement projects - or something like that! (I'm assuming by your title...hope that's ok!)
3. Ask a friend or someone with fresh eyes that has not worked for the govt to review your resume for any terms or acronyms that aren't "public sector" friendly - I work in research and my resume is loaded with stuff that doesn't translate well.
The goal of a resume is to demonstrate how your work is superior, how it affects the bottom line/how you save $$, and that you're a team player.
You've got this - and good luck!
