How to write & get paid for it?

Hey friends! I currently work in customer-facing customer service, which, while I love people, is definitely not what I want to be doing with my English/Creative Writing degree. I've known forever that I want, need, and am Meant To Be a writer, specifically for YA/fiction/fantasy (and fantasy-ish) materials, but most writing jobs I'm coming across either require specific knowledge (legal, medical, etc) or are for retailers and their social media management, which I could do, but I wouldn't feel good about it, or, on Upwork, a LOT of opportunities for ghostwriting, which I don't know enough about to feel at all comfortable with. So my question is: is there a better, faster, more productive way for me to get my foot in the writing world's door than by trying through Upwork or by submitting to literary journals? I don't have a whole lot in terms of a portfolio that I'd be able to show potential employers, and I'm not sure exactly the best way to change that. Thank you in advance for any and all advice!!

Hi there, start small and decide what genre you are good at with writing. In the meantime, you could start a blog and get ads on them to get going for extra income and visibility. I would research some genres that interest you? Write a few articles for some top blogs to get your name out there. You can utilize those articles as examples of your writing. This is a process and it takes time. You could also look into writing on Medium dot com. There are also some great articles on how to make $$ as a writer.
