New to this group.
Hello Everyone,
I recently relocated to Houston, Texas and haven't been successful in landing a job. I get the denial emails instead of an initial call. I had my resume professionally updated etc. but that doesn't seem to be working. Being new here to Houston, I don't know folks to network with etc. I have attended job fairs with no success. I also heard folks say they prefer an inside referral to ensure the right candidate will mesh with the culture of the organization; since I don't know anyone...see my predicament. Any suggestions/inputs
One of the things that may help is to register with temp agencies as that does several things a). you get paid, b). you can interview while working, c). you can use the temp agency for a reference for an external position or for the company that is working with them.
Another thing to do that may help is just to go out and be social (without the agenda of being hired). You have no idea what could transpire as I see people being notified and recommended for jobs or consulting gigs.
Lastly, please follow both Workhap and Resume Addict on IG as they give loads of helpful tips from a recruiter perspective.
Good luck and best wishes to you!
thanks a lot for your valuable input.
Have you registered with any temp agencies? Some companies try people out with a temp contract. And if you just get temp jobs, you're working and adding something local to your resume.
Good luck.
The temp agencies I looked into had jobs way outside my field, like CDL drivers, construction workers, food services etc. but you know what I think I am going to sign up a few cause I took it as the jobs weren't in my line of work but maybe something will turn up eventually.
