I have been in my position for 8 years.
While I love my work, I don't love my workplace.
In the time I've been in this position, I was elected to a state association for my position, as a Board Member, then Vice President, then President (serving a two-year term) and am currently the Immediate Past President. I eventually was elected as a Board Member for a national organization, related to this position, and was re-elected last summer to a 3-year term, ending in 2023.
Today, I had my annual evaluation, where it expressly states "She will be expected to moderate her involvement in associations (only attending/teaching virtual sessions that apply to our job functions) to give her time to be in the office to learn and train staff on the new system."
Part of my terms of being on the national board are to attend the mid-year and annual meetings, as well as a fall board meeting. Typically, these are in-person. We have not yet determined if our annual meeting in July will be in-person or remote.
My take on the evaluation is that I'm to attend no in-person events in 2021 or early 2022.
I've been searching for a new position since well before lockdown last year, but am not having much success. I'd prefer for something remote, as my family does not want to relocate (there's nothing close to where we live that I could do similar to my current position).
If anyone happens to know of remote work opportunities dealing with project management, policy, judicial systems, local government, data analysis, anything along those lines - please let me know. My frustration levels with the lack of opportunity within my current position, as well as the lack of support for me to pursue those opportunities, is to the point that I just want to quit, but would prefer to have another position lined up before I do that.
First, I'm sorry for the frustration you're experiencing at work. Lack of opportunity to move to other positions is very frustrating.
In terms of government job search, have you looked at the Department of Labor's website: dol. gov?
One thing Covid has done is shown that a lot of people are more than capable working from home. I honestly believe we'll see this trend continue from now on.
All the best!
