Career after retail management
Hello,
I’ve been in retail management for 16+ years (since graduating college). I started a family recently and would like to transition to a career that allows me to be home more regularly on nights and weekends. I’m just not sure where to even start a new job search. I know the parts of my job I love the most are the fast pace and developing a team. If anyone else has ever made this transition I would love to know what jobs you found similarly satisfying and how you made the move.
Thanks.
Hey Melissa, congrats on starting your family and being ready to make a career change! I love that you've identified some aspects of the job that you enjoy, that's a great starting point. As a way to start to learn about other types of jobs, I'd recommend utilizing LinkedIn's alumni tool to find folks with similar backgrounds to yours and see what they're doing. I have a quick, free overview video of how to use the tool here: https://www.alybrine.com/LinkedInAlumniTool
Once you identify those individuals, start conducting informational interviews to learn more about the positions and how you maybe able to transition into the industry. Using the alumni tool gives you a common like factor to begin with and people innately want to be helpful so take advantage of it!
Best of luck with your transition!
Thank you Aly! I never thought to do this, and I am bit of a LinkedIn junkie. I am a freelancer so I always looking for "ins" with potential clients.
Don't feel bad, it's a magic data tool that no one knows about! Hope it helps. Feel free to connect on LinkedIn, you've got a FGB in with me ;)
