I had an interview on Monday and the interviewer asked me if I am actively looking and I told her that I am and have an offer but have not accepted, waiting for the outcome of this interview..
and the interviewer said they would make the decision shortly and HR person would reach out. Haven't heard anything yet.. Am I just being anxious? I actually need to give an answer to the company who has offered me a job soon..
I had a situation like this one with my current company ages, ago. I had a competing offer and was waiting to hear back from my now-employer after the interview. I did end up reaching out again just to say I understood how busy everyone one is, and just want to reiterate my interest in the job, I have to make a decision on another offer, and did they have any updated info? I see this post is from a couple of weeks ago...I hope you ended up hearing good news from your interviewer!
I need to say this loudly: "I HATE THIS QUESTION!" I want to make my response, are you looking into other candidates for this job? The answer is of course each way and would I want to waste my time interviewing and going through this process if I was not interested?
*Sorry now I feel better. Thank you!*
I ask all my candidates if they're actively interviewing.
If they've just started the interview process, I want to know that. They might need some - or a lot - more time before they're in a place to make a decision.
If they're anticipating an offer, I need to know that so I can light a fire under my hiring managers if necessary.
Would it be better to not ask and lose a candidate because I didn't ask and therefore didn't know?
This might take at the least a few of more days since you've only just begun the process with the second company and it usually takes several meetings/calls to hammer out the details and receive a formal offer.
Even it was the last round of interview?
Don't give up a job that you have been offered for one that might or might not be offered. Reply to the company that made the offer by the deadline so that the job doesn't go to someone else. If you haven't heard by tomorrow (Thursday), contact the employer where you interviewed on Monday, let them know that they would be your first choice, but you have another offer and need an answer. I would be inclined to accept the job where they definitely want me rather than work for an employer who plays games with people's lives.
It has only been 2 days, but I understand that you have another pending offer. It may be worthwhile to contact them and tell them that they are the #1; however, you need to respond to the other company by a certain date. This way they know by when to respond to you. Good luck and congrats on the offer.
