Looking for Remote work at home job
I'm new to this website and I've been out of work since April and I really want to go back to work as soon as I can. Yes I know I probably won't find my dream job but I can't wait on that I need a job. Yes we all are facing all sorts of work discrimination from age to gender, but I come from the generation where were taught to work and pay our own way in life. I have done all the right steps gone to college got a bachelors in Business Administration and then went back years later and got an MBA but that doesn't seem to be enough any more, companies want people with college degrees but don't want to pay you anything for it. It is very frustrating looking for work and running into the same road blocks again.
I have 15+ years experience in the purchasing, materials and logistics management area. I've have purchased building materials and shipped all over the world, I've purchased engines and shipped all over the world, I've purchased tractor-trailers and shipped them to any location in the US. I'm able to work with multi groups and collaborate on any project to get things done.
There isn't anything that I can't purchase or ship or plan any product needs. I'm very organized and like taking control of the project to get it done. I'm very reliable and not afraid to work.
My situation is unique in that I have parents who are in ill health and I'm the care taker for them, so I'm not able to relocation for a new position but I am able to travel for short time frames for meetings and such if needed. I'm looking to work from home so that I'm able to take care of my parents.
I'm not looking forward to becoming an orphan, so I will do what I need to in order to be here to take care of my parents.
I would appreciate any help in finding a remote job in the purchasing, materials planning, logistics area. I'm also open to new opportunities that can use my talents.
In my spare time I'm a clay target shooting coach and teach kids grades 5 - 12 to shoot and break clay targets in a program called Scholastic Clay Target Program. I started this program at the local gun club in my city about 10 years ago. When I started this program we had 6 kids now ten years later we have 30 kids participate, and are state, regional and national champions. A few of my students have gone off to college with scholarships to shoot on the college teams, and a few have gone into the military.
During the process of implementing this program I wrote grants to help in assisting in starting this program and to help ease the cost for the parents.
I'm able to manage multiple tasks and functions to get the job down. I'm very well rounded and can adapted easily.
You could possibly look out of the box. Develop a paid clay shooting option for adults, hold a tournament for adults? Also could you do business management work for several local private companies in your area? My mother in law does this and makes a decent living with flexibility. It might help you be more available to your parents.
Hi there. I found www.flexjobs.com to be a legitimate site for remote jobs. It's about $15 a month, but worth it. Good luck - I know how hard it is out there!
Thank you for the website I will look into it and give it a try. I know there is a job and company out there for someone with my skills. Besides having an MBA and the work experience, during my spare time I also coach a target shooting team of kids grades 5th thru 12th I organize every shoot we attend, I write grants to help offset the cost that the parents face. It's a lot of work and fun keeping 30 kids organized and all the parents. My team over the 10 years I've been coaching them have been state, regional and national champions. I'm very proud of these kids.
Thank you for connecting, and yes I’m on LinkedIn and Indeed.com. I have applied to several Remote jobs but I haven’t heard anything back on them. I’m doing my best to be patient and let the job come to me but it is tough to do. I don’t mind saying that I’m scared I have a lot of good experience that would be valuable to any company whether I’m working from home or in the office/plant. You hear on the news that companies are hiring but I’m beginning to think it’s all false news.
I understand what you're going through! I'm getting interviews, but nothing past that so far. And most of my applications go completely unanswered. Have you reached out to your network? That's something I've been trying to make an effort to do. It's a hard step for me, but I make an effort not to ask for a job per se, but just to focus on reconnecting with others and see where it leads. Hope something great for you comes along soon!
I've reached out to a few connections I have, but what I'm finding is they are trying to distance themselves as if you have the plaque. My town (Decatur) I live in doesn't offer a lot, I know I will have to commute to any good job in another city, such as Bloomington, or Champaign, IL. I know there is a job out there for me, and to make things even harder for me my stepmother just found out she needs to go to St. Louis for surgery so I will need to drive my parents there for both have no business driving and with their health being bad they need someone with them that can do the talking. So I guess this is a blessing in disguise that I'm able to take them.
It's good to find the positive side of the situation! It might not make it go any easier or faster, but at least a little peace of mind. I concur on the recommendation for FlexJobs. There are many great, legit jobs, as well as good resources there.

I'm sorry that you're out of work and taking care of ill parents. Either of these stressors is enough on their own but combined...
Your comment on "being an orphan" resonated with me. Both of my parents had passed away by the time I was 18 - and I lost my only sibling 10 years ago. It's very lonely at times.
With the onslaught of Covid, a lot of companies are realizing that their people can work from home - and quite adequately. Fed Ex, UPS, SIA, Old Dominion, Estes - all transitioned customer service employees to work from home. The company I work for had nearly all of its employees home for 10 weeks - some of us (myself included) just went back last week.
I'm sorry, I don't know any specific logistics companies hiring. But if you haven't, I would check LinkedIn and Indeed.com.
All the best...
I hired two resume writers and have yet to receive a new resume. The 1st writer had cancer so he was unable to complete the resume but supposedly passed my order off onto someone in his company. The 2nd writer is still in the stage of writing the new resume. I've had phone interviews but because of COVID19 they are not sure how they are going to do in person interviews. The good news is I did hear back from an earlier interview I had with a company looking for a buyer and they are still interested in me :) I have another phone interview on Wednesday.
Good luck on your interview. Please keep us posted
I feel your pain. I've been actively looking for a month, passively before that, is it feels like an uphill battle. Have you updated your LinkedIn account and updated your resume? Have you spoken to people within your network to see who is hiring? It appears you have a great deal of experience and you need to let that shine.
