Current day employer needs?
There seems to be a never ending "need" for education, certifications and years of experience UNTIL you bring that and more to the table!
I have more degrees than a thermometer WITH the certifications and hands-on experience to match. So, now the issue with landing a corporate career is "you're overqualified". This to me seems to be the consensus for women, because I've personally witnessed HR create a position for men. I have sat at hiring tables where HR advises the team, they will create a job description and title and present an offer. Its unfortunate, because I have gone through 19+ years of education and 20 years of hands-on experience.
I have been able to pioneer FTB revenue cycle operations, increasing revenue while decreasing risk. My former team members have always remained in contact with. This speaks volume of the positive impact I have been and the type of leader I am.
Overqualified MUST mean, intimidated... I don't want your position, I want to be a positive impact in my OWN position.

You are ABSOLUTELY Correct!! I can tell you at the beginnning of my career in my 20's I was told I needed to get education or more of computer knowledge etc. now I have 3 degrees, 1 Bachelor, 2 associates, servsafe manager, Ramp, Food service, retail, Training certified, and now Companies want 10 years experience with degrees YET They either want to pay a straight out of college Salary or .....or..... We feel you are not a good fit or overqualified!!!!! its so dang frustrating I will say this!!!!
Set the bar higher for yourself. Be honest with yourself if you're applying to jobs you've basically already done or are you applying for the next 1 or 2 steps up in your leadership circle of experience. I often see people not reaching far enough for the next opportunity.
This so resonates with me, which is, of course, why I am currently getting yet another degree! And thinking of applying for a PhD in Leadership. I have been in the situation where the agencies who were handling my recruitment strategy rewrote my resume and TOOK MY ADVANCED DEGREES AND CERTIFICATIONS OFF!!!!
Um, yeah. . .
I have also been advised to remove my doctorate. In my mind, if the job description wants a Masters, having a doctorate would be a bonus. However, this has not been the case.
