It has been 3 months since I was laid off and I still can’t find a job.
I am scared as my severance is running out and I have tried everything. I lean on my LinkedIn network, I have updated my resume, spoke to countless recruiters who say my resume is great and my background and experience are impressive but it doesn’t translate to anything.
I believe things will get better.
I'm not making light, but three months is nothing compared with many of us who have been unable to work in our fields for a few years. Yes, we are experienced professionals and do all the requisite LinkedIn updates, networking, calling recruiters, going to company websites, etc. Crickets. Hope you have better luck.
Same here! I have been applying, had my resume professionally written and then reviewed by AI and 3 other resume writers along with reached out to contacts in all of my address book and contacts of their contacts, have 4 recruiters looking for me. Am willing to accept any shift, contract and perm, lower level positions... The list goes on.
The job market is such that, especially with remote positions, is so saturated that I don't think HR really looks at all of the them and they rely on automated processing. I've even made sure the skills I have that are in the job posting are in my resume (word for word) and still am getting " Thank you. While your experience and skills are great we decided to go with someone else."
The right position will come along (for all of us). We have to be patient but I know it's hard when unemployment doesn't come close to covering expenses and severance only lasts so long.
Good Luck to you !
I just posted this.
https://companies.talentally.com/ This is a great site. Go through many that are of interest and search by hybrid. Unfortunately, many companies are back in the office so you may have to take a full-time in the office position. I don't know how much experience you have. Set up job alerts from LinkedIn, I get them daily even though I'm on exactly in the market. Mondelez International is huge and has some remote opportunities. Take a look. If you don't know who they are, they are one of our favs that hire our early talent. There are lots of jobs out there but you have to be a detective. Hope you find just the right fit soon.
I have to agree with the reply below. It's an awful market for well experienced candidates. I seriously doubt it's about you or your expertise. There are simply so few openings and a ton of top tier candidates in the market. Try and take special care of yourself right now and keep your job search active but not obsessive. Balance a focused few hours a week with exercise, meditation, nature walks and maybe volunteer work. Nurture yourself and surround yourself with positive people and activities.
I know it's super hard to do but fear is a very rough adversary. Don't let it drive your life.
It's a really terrible job market out there. Sounds like you are doing everything you can, in the meantime, don't forget to file for unemployment, and try to cut your expenses where you can. Good luck to you!
