Most Common Interview Questions?
Hey ladies!
What are the most common interview questions you've received? If you got the job, what do you feel or what were you told helped you?
Bonus: If you're in a creative industry (art/comms/pr/advertising/media/entertainment), what types of interview questions were you asked related to the industry?
"Tell me about yourself or Tell me what has brought you to us" / "Tell me about a time or difficult situation you had to navigate" / "What is your communication style?" / "How do you approach dealing with difficult co-workers or executives?" My advice: Write your answers to common questions, craft, and practice. Practice before every single call or Zoom session.
I believe the most important question that is almost always asked (and most often answered incorrectly) is: "Tell me about yourself." This is your moment to control the dialogue, help them see how you fit into their culture, and stand out from your competition.
I was in an interview for 1 1/2 hour and the question was ask to me I told my story correctly because it’s about me. How could that be wrong. I waited for a week and sent them a Thank you for the interview and I know they will make the best decision. The reply was thank you. What did I do wrong in this interview. Everyone story is different so how can they base this on the culture and stand out from the competition.
Most candidates make the mistake of regurgitating what the interviewer could learn on a resume or telling their life history. I've been told the most interesting and fascinating stories but then looked at my notes and have asked, "Where did that 10 minutes go?" and "What did they tell me that will help me understand how/why they're a good fit for this company and culture?" This is where a great coach can help you. Here's an example: I was interviewing for a media company who specialized in food. The one deal breaker for them was whomever we chose had to be passionate about food. Both candidates were very evenly qualified. One person told me about their journey freelancing through several companies (on her resume) and about her experience in food. Another candidate told me about her Nonna and how she'd sit in the kitchen watching her for hours, she shared her journey with food, the emotions it evoked throughout her life, and how food speaks to how we manage diversity & inclusion. She added her mission and purpose in her work as it related to such. Her 'story' made an incredible difference. Feel free to email me and I can give you better examples: [email protected].
