Looking for a change in career!

I’m a Pastry Chef by trade looking to make a transition out. All of my experience is in the kitchen and I’m working on a Bachelors degree in Sociology & Anthropology. Anyone here have any good work ideas? I’m in CT currently

It's great that you're pursuing a new passion. I agree that you need a to figure out what you're going to do after you get your degrees. I have a BA in Sociology and it's not going to get you far by itself. Sociology is a stat heavy field at the MA/PhD level. If you like stats, getting a MA could lead you into a job analyzing crime statistics or doing research studies. Not sure what paths Anthro will lead you on outside academics. You need to look at your options in both fields and see what you can do with them that aligns with your goals and interests. Education is a great investment in yourself. Hoping it pays off well for you! Good luck.

What are you planning to do with your sociology and anthropology degree? If/when you are clear on that, you can develop a plan that takes you from where you are now to where you want to be. For instance, say you plan to teach at a college. You could look for a job pastry chef or other position in a college where you would want to teach. (Maybe that's where you are going to school, maybe not.) Get to know people. Get on any committees where professors and staff both participate. In the meantime, do all you can to prove yourself within your department. Now, that's one of the possibilities if you want to teach. If you want to do something else, then, you can determine an approach that will bridge the gap between where you are and where you want to be.

Plan on getting more education or living a very simple, low cost life.

I agree with Evelyn and I applaud you for the ambition!! As someone sort of in the same boat - find your passion and follow it!

I'm thinking a good place to start might be examining what non-tangible job skills are common to both or possibly what you enjoy from being a Pastry Chef and what you enjoy about Sociology & Anthropology.
