What is the best message to a recruiter or Hiring Mgr who posted a role on LinkedIn?

Hi Folks - I struggle with drafting unique..SHORT messages to professionals who post roles on LinkedIn.. Am aware of the need to to connect: * promote myself in some meaningful manner w/out asking for the job, but 'how' - usually have nothing in common w/them * I'd like to know where they're in the recruiting process (never gets a response ...ever) :D * all input, strategies are appreciated... Be well, LOST (less found these days)

Barb_Hansen - thank very much you for the ' done better than perfect' advice ...it made me stop over thinking & step out of my head ... i.e. for a recruiter, using your suggestion, I can ask them about key points about the culture, that they appreciate and not readily apparent from research ... (hope that's not too much , lol) Commenting in my groups...definitely a toss up, still trying. Be well, Lost

To quote an old adage "Done is better than perfect" Here is a strategy that I use when I find myself spinning in the 'what is the best way to do this' mud - just do something! There is no best way to do anything, but doing nothing is (usually) always the worst thing to do. and here are some specific tips: 1. If you are reaching out to a potential hiring manager you could say, "I am looking to increase my network on LinkedIn in field XYZ. I reviewed your profile and was impressed by (or noticed that) ABC." OR "I would love the opportunity to connect with professionals like yourself in the area (or in the field)" And leave it there. Don't ask if they are hiring, leave that for the next message :). 2. Join a Group or two on LinkedIn related to your field (not a job seekers group just a group related to your field) and then get involved, even a quick comment of "interesting article. thanks for sharing" is pretty easy to write. You'll start to make some relationships in that group which you can then lean on in the future.
