What should I look for in company culture?
I'm entering the work force during this crazy time but I found I'm more focused on the title/field I want than the company culture. I've been so focused on "doing" what I want that I haven't really thought about "where" I want to work. What should I look for in a company's culture, especially as a younger person entering the workforce?
You could start with your own values and compare them to the values of the companies you're considering. If you've never "mined" for your values you can ask yourself questions like "who inspires me and what is it about them that I find inspiring?" or "when did I feel fulfilled and what made me feel that way?" and the opposite "when did I feel like what I cared about was being stepped on and what made me feel that way?" As you answer your questions, write down the values that show up. That will give you an indication of what's really important to you. Then, when you look at companies to work for, search for their own values see how they compare with yours. The chances are, the more your values align with a company's, the better the match, and the more you will enjoy working there. Good luck!
Hi Lana! Thank you so much for this response. This is so helpful. I've never even thought to ask myself these questions before!
