Hi!
I was laid off after a company reorg and I am back in the work force after over 15 years with a company that I loved. I am new to the group and just wanted to say hi and wondered how others have navigated during a tough period? I have lost a bit of my passion after this, as I was blind sighted. Thoughts?
Losing a job is a big thing, and don't let anyone tell you otherwise. You need to grieve it like you'd grieve any other major loss. Everyone needs a different amount of time to get back on the horse. Make a list of things you enjoy doing, and things you don't. Find your way to the Gallup Strengths Finder Assessment ant do it. I believe you may find out some things about yourself to confirm, or that are new, or that actually are a burnout skill (something you did that now has burnt out). For me that is sales. I knew it before the assessment, but it was confirmed, big time. Focus on one thing that brings you joy, and search everything about that. Good Luck to you.
Being laid off from a company you loved can be really hard. If you have a little room to breathe with your severance and don’t have to jump into the job hunt, I highly recommend taking some time off to regroup. Maybe pick up a hobby or do some volunteer work? I was laid off last summer and spent some time focusing on my family which really helped me reprioritize what I wanted in my next role and also make some decisions around how I was going to do a better job of balancing work and life. The time off before diving into the job hunt helped me feel more energized and ready for my next role.
Don't despair. I would take a couple of weeks off to recharge and rest and then prepare a plan to move forward. First, tackle your financial situation. Cut all unnecessary expenses, set a budget. Then update your resume. Reach to all people you know. Set a schedule to look online and start applying. And take some time for hobbies and exercise and other things you were too busy doing before. You will get through this!
How long ago was your layoff?
Also, my condolences on the loss of your job.
I'd start with revamping the résumé.
Remove anything not pertinent to your current interests along with the date that you graduated and High School completely.
Oh, so many thoughts! You get to decide what to make this mean. I have had clients who were devastated by a layoff, and others who were thrilled and excited.
The difference? What they made the layoff mean: About themselves, their work quality, the job market, their value to an employer, their qualifications, etc.
You can make it mean whatever you want (how cool is that?), so I encourage you to decide it means something positive for you.
