What does it mean with job postings when...

I noticed that some job positions will be posted on the official career site for a company, but not on sites like LinkedIn or Indeed and vice versa... For example, if I see a job position open on LinkedIn, but it's not on their official career site, which is it? Is it open or no? I've also seen a job posting go up for a day, expire, then come back the next day... What is going on behind the scenes? Thanks!

It's all about outreach to various candidates. I've seen postings up for weeks...then the link expires...only for it to be up the next day again! That's why you don't want to get too invested into a position until you have the offer!

I wouldn't read too much into it, given what I've seen at my company. A different team manages LinkedIn (social media) than recruiting tools (like Indeed or our careers site). The same team manages our external and internal job posting platforms, but they use two different platforms and the expiration dates are often different depending on who posted the job, when it was entered into the system, etc. The same can happen on LinkedIn and Indeed with different posting/expiration dates. If the job is posted anywhere, I would generally assume that it's open. If it's not, then it was likely an oversight and not intentional. Disclaimer: I am not on the recruiting team, but I have worked with them on some projects so I've had the opportunity to learn.

I've seen all scenarios: * Posting on LinkedIn, but not on Co. website (they are filling their resume funnel) * No posting anywhere, internal recruiter hits you up on LinkedIn * No posting anywhere, external recruiter hits you up on LinkedIn * Posting on everything including Co. Website, ask network connection for a referral only to find out from internal recruiter that they've already hired someone. Basically, don't give up, it could be anything and different for every position, every company.

Yes, as Anonymous has stated...it's all based on how the company's HR/Recruiting team decide to post opportunities. I had a call with a networking contact about roles at her company and all listings were on LI & nothing on their site. I was surprised. She explained that due to Covid, fewer employees are around to manage. So, they just post on LI to reach the masses.

Absolutely check everything on LinkedIn, Indeed or any other job board on the company's official website Careers page. If it's not there, then I don't trust the posting.

More than anything it depends on how your co. Handles postings. One person may control Linked In and another the company website. Or often companies do keep up an external posting and run it through expiration, even if they have removed The posting from their website and\or filled the job or changed hiring plans.
