I'm stepping back into the job market after roughly 12 years as a stay at home mom.
My professional background is a marketing communications strategist who worked at ad agencies. I have an MBA in finance. I'm uncertain how to frame my re-entry and am feeling a bit insecure about the process. Does anyone in this group have the skill set to help me repackage my resume and experience to help me focus my re-entry into the job market? So much has changed since 2007. Thank you.
This is a great resource that I was unaware of! Thank you for expanding my world:)
Hi Jennine! I work for Path Forward, a nonprofit organization that assists women and men who have taken time away from the workforce for caregiving get back into the career of their choice. We have tons of resources on our site for reskilling and navigating the job search, as well as open opportunities now. Check us out at https://www.pathforward.org/participant/ or email [email protected] :)
Marketing principles have not changed, but communications strategies have changed significantly. Social media, streamed TV and more have drastically altered the marketing communications arena. Whether you were B2B or B2C focused... the world is very different from where it was a decade ago. (although I having worked in both, I think B2B has changed less)
To get back into the game I would lean toward the finance route as there have been fewer changes there...
Good luck!
Thank you for sharing your thoughts, Gigi. Much appreciated!
Interesting. Thank you!
P.S. I saw this in other group here in FGB, might be something helpful for you! https://www.deloitte.com/us/encore
Hey @Jennine - I would lean on your foundational skills. Marketing principles haven't and will never change, right! It's mainly the channels and format that have. Personally, I love the idea of someone with a strong background who might be a little more 'green' in our industry vs. someone who knows the industry but doesn't have those strong foundational skills, so consider that in your repackaging!
Also, not sure if this would be a good fit for you, but maybe you know someone? Or if you'd be interested, check it out :) We're hiring and looking for someone creative with a marketing background: https://elevatehermarketing.com/were-hiring-creative-director/
Thank you for this insight and guidance, Frannie. Your encouragement is appreciated and I'll review the opportunity you indicted. Have a nice day:)
