I am mad, yes mad.
I am tired of every at-will, non-compete, and arbitration agreements being launched at me during this process.
Why can't the laws protect more employees? Why do they have to leave the employers with all the power?
I would like to find a group or organization that is working to change this and fight the laws that allow this.
I am turning down jobs because I do not want to waive my rights to a jury for common issues like Labor Standards or Discrimination issues, known to protect people from abuse in the past.
Employers are sending up red flag, when you ask for someone to give up their rights and say treat me however you feel.
Why am I the only one that is upset we as employees have to give up rights in order to have a job?
Especially when there is no chance to talk with your legal adviser first. You can bet these have been vetted by their corporate legal team; however, there are occasions when they haven't such as one non-compete I was asked to sign that would have precluded me from working in STAFFING within 200 miles! My lawyer laughed and said, "go ahead and sign it, it's not enforceable."
The feedback of not signing a contract with restrictive covenants will effect change.
The more people do that, the better, IMO.
I think you'll need to work to reform the laws.
Also, I would like to fight against companies, being allowed to change the job or job activities, management or organization for up to a year of being hired. If they do, employers should be required to immediately vest all retirements and other benefits. Giving the employee the opportunity to find another position without losing the money.
