Resume SOS
Hi All: I am currently working as a data scientist in the government sector, and have been working for the same organization for the last ~5 years. I am looking for my next position, but finding it very challenging to update my resume to be competitive. I have had mentors review my resume, however, I am still striking out. I am not sure, if I need to work on additional certifications or if I am just not marketing myself correctly. Does anyone have recommendations on how to get resume help?
What types of roles are you targeting? Is your same field or a pivot?
I ask because making sure the target is clear can be a game-changer in finding the right language to describe your accomplishments and skills.
The resume is only one piece of the puzzle too. A great resume can open doors but when you pair that with strategic networking and building relationships that's where the magic starts to happen.

You're probably having trouble getting through the ATS wall. Make sure you're using a resume format that can be read by an ATS, and include as many keywords and phrases from the job post in your submission as you possibly can.
My understanding of federal government job postings is that the initial pass, after veterans, is matching words and algorithmic matching of phrases being added up. Each job application would have a resume modified to match the job description.
What role are you looking for? Do you have the results you were able to achieve on your resume?
Each bullet should start with a result “increased x by 40% by….”, “decreased y by 15% through…..”.
Also, posting 3x a week with content that would help your future boss with a pain point you know they have will exponentially improve your call back rate. You can ask chatgpt for help crafting these messages.
