I am searching for a sales position in food ingredients to food manufacturers.
I find it difficult to have opportunities in other industries because my background and experience have been in this area for 25+ years. How do I open doors to opportunities in other industries, when everyone seems to be looking for specific experience?

Transferrable skills is what you want to spend time on and even specifically enumerate in your resume. Include a short explanation in your objectives that you want to explore other industries. Try looking for businesses in your area and connect with someone from the sales department on LinkedIn, ask for a meeting like coffee or lunch to talk about their position and what it entails. That would give you a better idea of how it differs and relates to what you already do.
