Unemployed since February 2023.
I'm a project manager with 8 years of experience in government contracts supporting a PMO office. Starting to lose hope of finding a new job. I have applied to 100's of jobs and either get ghosted or told they are moving forward with someone else.
Sorry to hear that, Kelly. Job searching is tough, and it's an employer's market right now.
How far are you getting in the interview process? Are you not getting past the first interviews, or are you getting all the way through to the final round?
(I'm assuming you are applying to PM jobs and not trying to pivot into another field. Also, hi! former PM here!)
Try the insurance industry.
That sounds tough but don't lose hope. Maybe you should get someone else to review your resume/CV and make sure that it focuses on your achievements rather than the tasks you carried out day to day? I've been out of work since November 2023 but I haven't been applying a lot. My experiences were temporary and so horrendous I feel like I have PTSD ... scared to apply. I've taken the time off to rebuild myself and confidence and I'm ready to try again. Keep going and use the time to look after yourself and all that you hold dear.
I empathize with you as I am going through the same exact thing. Honestly sucks
I was laid off in January as a Project Manager. I'm just now interviewing. There's a lot of competition.
Also, companies tend to hold off on hiring until the end of the first quarter and I believe its due to wrapping up the year end numbers and adjusting 1st quarter numbers.
You’re not alone - just keep plugging away. I took a part time job unrelated just to keep my brain moving and be social - it truly has helped me
Work temp to perm or do some contracting work until your blessing comes through.
Hey Kelly - are you looking for help? Take a step back and look at how you are telling your personal and professional story in your interviews. This part can be just as important as your qualifications and it helps them get a fuller picture of who you are as an individual and professional - these are the things that can really make you stand out! If you want to talk through it more, email me [email protected]
I can't even get to the interview stage. I had my resume professionally written and even got referrals from friends, but nothing.
With ya sister!
Going on 15 months now since the tech purge of ‘22. Applied for over 400 jobs, and have come very close to getting one, which promptly put a hiring freeze in place within hours of my interview where the guy told me I had the job. I have been told that my 12 years of contract experience just wasnt enough. I have been told 4 different ways to do my resume; put dates in after 10 years, don’t put dates in after 10 years, only 2 pages max, why isn’t your resume longer, no one cares about resume gaps anymore, why do you have so many resume gaps, …and my absolute favorite question from recruiters in the most condescending and astounded tone they can seem to muster ..”so what exactly have you been doing this whole time? I mean with your experience why haven’t you been hired?” ??♀️???♀️?. I could go on and on. But hon, it’s not you, it’s the market. And anyone trying to sell you the ‘freelancer’ work economy, don’t bother, no one is hiring there either. And if they are, it’s for $10/hr average, $20 if you’re lucky. You can make that working at Costco. Which frankly, I’m getting ready to go apply. I have bills to pay.

The jobs I am applying for are doing more than what I was, at half the pay, even at maxed out amounts.
Which they promptly tell me I won’t get because that’s the max amount of the position, ‘I wouldn’t have any room for raises.’ ??♀️. Then don’t give me raises AND JUST PAY ME WHAT IM WORTH!
