a little fyi
Hey gals, just a little fyi. I've been on an active job hunt for about 6 weeks and while talking with recruiters I've discovered they are literally overwhelmed with the amount of resumes they are getting and struggling to respond to everyone.
Using something like LinkedIn as an example, I used to see an average of maybe 25-100 applicants for a position. In some instances now I’m seeing over 1000 people have applied for a job that I was considering applying for. It’s brutal.
I definitely agree with trying to make human contact. If nothing else it’s a name that sticks out in their mind although I think many people are going the same route. Join networking groups, volunteer with organizations, take advantage of your LinkedIn network (the more you comment on posts, like posts or post Interesting articles yourself the more you’ll show up in searches and feeds). Be creative and be proactive.
Also I just started using a platform called Lunchclub which matches professionals for 1:1 virtual meetings/conversations. Another good way to expand contacts. If anyone is interested in joining (it’s free) I’m happy to share an invite link.
Hi Stephanie! I would also love to try out Lunch Club. Can I use the same link?
Yes ma'am! I am actually about to have a call with the Head of Digital for NASDAQ via Lunchclub. They curate the matches for you but there are really interesting people within the community.
I would love to try this.
Here you go! Let me know if you have any questions. I’m not in any way affiliated with them. I literally just started using the platform two weeks ago and am enjoying it so far.

I definitely will, thank you.

I can imagine, I'm a corporate talent specialist and even in good times it's difficult to reach every single candidate.
I hear yeah. Even I've dropped the ball.
I've moved soley to networking first, application second. It will be futile and full of rejection otherwise.
Great minds

One of the reasons I'm trying to make connections.
I too have been reaching out to, working to engage Talent/Hiring managers to solicit their input and advice. The human connection / networking is more important now than ever.
This is when more than ever a well executed resume AND making a human connection with the hiring personnel is the best way to get your toe in the door at least. Being bold and requesting a conversation with the recruiter whether on the phone, Zoom, or in person is key to having your name out there ahead in the game. Even if it is just a status update request!
Did they offer any actionable advice so that we can make it to the top of the pile?
What I've been doing is calling the company and getting a hold of the recruiter. I haven't been successful in landing a job but it is better than sitting and waiting for a call that never comes.
That is so true.
yikes, i figured as much but good to know....thanks for the heads up
