Advice On Staying Competitive in Today's Job Market
If you could offer advice to someone who lost their job or someone who recently graduated on staying relevant and competitive in today's job market, what would you say? (ex: learning opportunities, networking, etc)
We wrote a post about transitioning from college to career in this pandemic! https://arcvida.com/Blog/Post/use-this-action-plan-if-you-are-graduating-this-spring
Don’t forget meetups I have joined in my industry and that led me to more connections, right now most are virtual But still. Very interesting and informative also fun
I recently attended a virtual meeting through our local CareerForce about free online classes on Coursera. There over 3800 courses offered, many from top universities and certification available. These are all for free and open to anyone, not just unemployed or receiving compensation, if you go through CareerForce with link to Coursera. Deadline to register at no charge due to covid is 12/31/2020.
This is great! Do you have a link I can use to find to sign up for this?

I would build your network of peers within your field and always keep learning. If you haven't create a LinkedIn account and start following and connecting with people there. Look into LinkedIn Learning or Coursea to keep your skills fresh.
Hi Sydney!
Thanks for posting! And yes I have lots of advice! Ditch the networking with recruiters. Most are so overwhelmed right now. You best bet is to network with managers and to join/network with your city council members and educators. They have more access to more than the internet can provide. Hope this helps! Please let me know if I can be of any assistance.
Hi Ciara! This is great feedback, thank you. For city council members, are they aware of available jobs in my city? I’ve never reached out to them before.
Thanks Ciara for the information. I really appreciate it.
Great question. I’d suggest attending online events relevant to your industry, joining local professional organizations, reading and commenting online about developments in your field, and networking on professional sites.
