12 years out of the 9-5 grind, now with BS and soon MBA, how do I spin doctor the resume and online applications?
I have spent the last 12 years as the one taking care of others until there was time to take care of me. I've finished my BS in Animal Science (focus in Horse Racing) and am 1/3 through my MBA (graduation eta: Fall 2021).
I've not worked a traditional 40-hour W-2 job since being laid off from my administrative temp assignment at a high tech company (2008). Instead, I've worked part time W-2, freelanced as an editor, and most recently done ride share and inventory/merchandising...all are soft skills transferable any beginning managerial job.
But how do I find that beginning managerial job as I do my best to avoid looking like I'm not about to turn 50? I can't wait until the MBA is done...the 'gig life' is starting to wear on my body (and my car), never mind that the school loans are subsidizing my basic living expenses. Fortunately, I'm in Tucson where the cost of living is about as cheap as it can get, but it certainly isn't where I want to spend the rest of my life. It's just where I am until school is done, maybe even paid off.
