Really freaked out

I live in a small town with no car and no public transportation. I am at my witt's end trying to find a job I can earn a living wage. Does anybody have any other ideas than surveys, or anything that isn't a complete waste of time??? I have very little resources and I really need to become financially stable again (its been over 4 years since I could pay all my bills).

I'm seeing mostly like IT jobs and customer service jobs, and I know I will be miserable attempting those.

May I ask what exactly worked for you on that website?

Look at www.flexjobs.com - they offer companies that have 100% remote jobs. Hopefully you could find something there! You just need a PC & internet.

I guess I need to accept there is nobody in my area who is going to hire me unless I'm married to the right person or some rich dood's daughter. I truly hate the idea of turning to remote work. I have a bachelors degree I wish was worth the student loans I can't pay back. Has anybody ACTUALLY TRIED any of these sites with income success? Also could we elaborate how and what we were successful with? I've tried VIP Kid but all i got was a nasty maleware virues that is still haunting me. I've had very little luck with fiver or upwork but thats probably because I have very little interest in $5 gigs. I need to make a livable wage and find health and dental benefits and become financially stable. In the past I've worked with due diligence projects and honestly I'd really like to do something different, but I'm trying to level up not level down.

Hi, I understand how frustrating this must be. You said you may need to accept that no one in your area will hire you unless you are connected. Does that mean there is work but you haven't been successful in getting hired? If that's the case then it might be that it's the job search and networking process you need help with. Is there a local library or your alumni career services office where you could get some job search help? I know this won't provide an immediate solution, but it could be the piece that's missing.

The local library here is a joke sadly, when I tried that they basically made me cry. The alumni career services have very little too offer in this area. Today was especially frustrating, I tried hitting the streets and applied in a real estate office, was told by two employees that nope not hiring, wouldn't even take my resume, even though we posted an ad in the paper. Then as I'm walking to parking lot and the owner comes out catches me as I'm walking to my rental car (yes, my broke ass rented a car to attempt networking and because I just need out of town for my sanity) and explains they are hiring, but only if her daughter decides to not come back from out of state. I give her my resume and tell I'm great at filling in for people, even if its temporary I can probably help you out. I feel like some sort of idiot. Thanks for listening.

I understand your frustration. If this were 1990 or 2000 or even 2010, there might not be a feasible solution. But there is today. Do you know that a small town revitalization is taking place in the US? People are leaving large cities because technology has made it possible to work from anywhere. There are more and more remote jobs and freelancing opportunities are continuing to grow. The best site for all kinds of flexible work, including remote, is flexjobs.com. And you can include the words "remote" or "workfromhome" or "telecommute" in the keyword search. There are many sites for finding freelance work. Three of the most popular are LinkedIn (ProFinder), Fiverr, and Upwork. Ratracerebellion.com provides information on a variety of different kinds of remote opportunities. Most do not pay very much. However, some provide the ability to start earning immediately and to work at your convenience. That means bringing in some income while searching for something more lucrative. All of these websites can be helpful, however, networking is most often the best way to find any kind of work--to find an employer or a client. Why don't you start by telling us what kind of work you are looking for?

I know your trying to help, but I'm looking for people who have tried these with success and I'm not finding any, so maybe you don't want to recommend these to your friends. I wouldn't recommend any work to anybody that I have not tried out for myself, otherwise your just making yourself feel better and kind of writing off them off and making them feel stupid.

Maybe these are leads to your own research? No one here is trying to make anyone feel stupid. We all have a responsibility to do our own research. What works for her may not work for someone else.

Become a Amazon or ebay seller. There are ways to do it without inventory on hand. Try Fiver.com. Do virtual services online,. How about becoming a Virtual Administrative Assistant? There are several agencies you can sign up with.

Have you personally tried any of these? and if so what was effective for you?

https://www.kellyservices.us/us/other/kellyhome/ Kelly Connect is hiring online remote Apple agents right now. They train you and mail you the equipment to do the job for free. If you can work any laptop, cell phone, or tablet and have a high school diploma then you qualify. If not this remote job then I'd suggest looking at Flexjobs.com or some of the other remote work websites. In dead in areas you only have a couple of choices--save up and try to relocate or look for remote work. I hope things turn around for you.

Thanks for your comment, however it does require a vehicle in most cases, it is also temporary, and in my case I have done it before and I really hated it. I only got three people to take it last go around, and I promise I tried really hard! but again this is a very tough area for stuff like that.
