resume advice
How do I address the fact that my resume lists my years of creative director experience when I am applying for a non-director position? I am 58 and this has been my career since out of college. I am content being a graphic designer, I do not want to direct at this stage of my life. This may be preventing me from getting an interview as recruiters and interviewers seem fixated on this. HELP!!!
Have you done any freelance projects lately that showcase your graphic designer skills? If so, you could list those projects at the top of your resume to bring attention to your new, preferable role.
Thank you for your wise advice! Very helpful and I have altered my resume.
1. Can you redo your CV and LinkedIn to eliminate your titles— just put in companies worked for and dates?
2. Can you write an objective saying you want to return to a graphic design position?
3. Can you tailor cover letters to hiring managers/recruiters detailing your desire to take a graphic designer job?
4. If you are not still working as a creative director, could you bill yourself as an independent graphic design consultant? That way, the first job on your CV will say graphic design— perhaps this will ease the transition.
5. Similarly, would it be possible for you to freelance as a graphic designer to help the transition along? Would remote work as a graphic designer make sense?
Great advice!
