NYC job seach
Hi there,
I am in the process of moving to NY but have been trying to find the right job for me. I have unique experience working with Barstool Sports and many other social media partnerships. I want to find a job involving social media marketing or influencer management.
Any tips, connections or roles you feel would help me?
Thanks,
Scarlett

Hey there are a ton of tech companies in NYC so with your experience at Barstool you should be well positioned to get noticed or interviewed. Try BuiltinNYC for job resources. Also there is this great meetup to make connections in the sector called People and Tech series. There are so many openings you shouldnt have trouble finding roles but the key will be optimizing your network once you find something you like. HUGE is a great company in BK there are too many to name. Start with the BuiltinNYC website and the MUSE to find the companies you like and than scan for roles you are looking for, than circle back on here to request a more targeted referral :)
I agree with them. I live in New York City and although I don't work in that industry or are familiar with it, they've given you good suggestions.
Good suggestions above! You might consider going out as a consultant a few times to build your network in the city and the field. Also, if you have any visual examples of your previous work that aren't proprietary, a portfolio online can be very helpful.
Since you are relocating, have you considered remote work to start with? Particularly in your field, you can easily find a job. This list of websites for remote jobs might me helpful https://chasingourfinancialfreedom.com/best-websites-remote-jobs/
Hi! To start you should fill out your professional profile on FGB (https://fairygodboss.com/users/job-profile) so recruiters on FGB can find you. Second, what industry are you looking to work in?
Hi Scarlett.
For people to assist you, it would be helpful for you to provide more clarity. It would be helpful for you, as well.
Where in NYC do you want to work? There is more to NYC than Manhattan and, just in Manhattan, there are many neighborhoods with many different cultures and flavors.
Do you want to work for a social media company or in an in-house marketing department? Do you want to work for a large corporation or a startup? Is there a specific industry you are drawn to?
Do you have a specialization within the general field of social media? Do you want to focus on one of two networking sites? Or do you want to do it all for one company? I think of blogging, article writing (i.e., LinkedIn Publishing, Medium, etc.), and podcasting as part of social media. Does your ability extend into these areas?
Do you want to manage a social media department, rather than doing all the work yourself?
Have you researched any businesses in New York to determine where you would like to work? Are there any NYC-based businesses that have poor social media that you would especially want to help?
As you start to figure these things out, you can ask specific questions, such as: "I'm looking for a connection into XYZ company. Who do you know?"
If you haven't already, you might also want to start joining marketing social media on LinkedIn and Facebook--especially ones focused on NYC. You could also join relevant associations and their local NYC organizations. Participate as much as possible remotely until you move. That is an excellent way to start developing relationships, which can lead to income-generating possibilities, including jobs.
