Why Can't Agency Recruiters Be More Transparent
I got an email yesterday from an agency recruiter who "found me in her database". Obviously if she's digging me out of the database, she's got a job req and no one to submit for it. Before I got on a phone call that would waste both our time if it wasn't what I was looking for I asked two basic questions:
1. Is it full time?
2. What is the salary range?
The response was...*crickets.* Is this some top secret information? I mean I think this is the very least you can provide if you want someone to take time out of their day to consider a position you have to fill. Why do recruiters act like they are guarding the crown jewels?
I hate it too. At least nowadays it's over the phone, but I wasted so much time several years ago actually going to these places, filling out a ton of forms, taking assessments, only to finally sit down and listen to them say "we've filled the position but we'll keep your resume on file."
No, please delete it, thanks.
Yes! 100% frustrating. I can't tell you how often I've been approached by a recruiter for a position, express interest, we email back and forth a couple times, and then... crickets. And this has happened with Mondo (they're the most egregious), Robert Half/ The Creative Group, and 24 Seven. So frustrating.
I totally agree. I find some recruiters think if you contact the company directly it cuts them out of getting a bonus.

You dodged a bullet by asking those questions!
Joanne, you are so right! This is something that annoys me so much. So unprofessional.
Depends on the recruiter. Remember, unless you hired a head-hunter, they don't work for you, so they spend their time where they will benefit from it.
Unfortunately many of these 'drive-bys' are due to their work overload. A good recruiter from a good company will keep in touch, though it may take a week or two, depending on the number of positions they are filling, etc.,
I find that most respond within 24 hours. If they don't I just write them off, because my time is more valuable to me than their time is to me.
No skin off my nose, their loss ;)
Totally agree with you Joanne! Further, if you do speak with them and then they ghost you with zero feedback, that's not professional either!
I cannot begin to tell you of the number of times this has happened to me over the past year!!
