Having difficulty finding a new job
I was laid off after 20 years in December 2020 from a Director position. After months of searching, I had to take a position that was an entry level job in my field to make ends meet. I updated my resume to reflect my current job. The problem I am having is that I am receiving offers for the same pay and position I am at now, not what I am applying for. With my experience, I know I am worth more than what is being offered, I can't understand what I am doing wrong. I'm stuck? Is it my age? I am in my mid-forties.
Yes, it could be your age. But why do they even know what your current salary is? In some states it's illegal to ask that.
I'm 63 and have the issue of having been technically demoted during a reorganization, then pushed out of my job. I want to return to management (reporting to a rookie manager after 25 years of managing was no picnic!). The sticking point I have in even deciding whether to apply is the requirement of "a record of progressively responsible" positions.
Why pay you more, when you are currently working for less? That is the mindset of the employer.
