Hi!
New here and looking for advice. Apologies this is a long one! TLDR ; don't know how to search for a job without having a defining skill set.
For most of my working life, I have been in a small business atmosphere. Due to this I have become a Jill of all trades, master of none. For example, at my current job they bought two companies and when I started were still treating them as separate entities. These two companies created custom products, these new products along with what we already had available in custom made a nice spread of customized products.
We needed to create sales materials that would educate the inside sales staff ( there was a LOT of product coming over) , could be distributed to our outside , independent sales staff and most importantly introduce our customers to all of our new products.
I spoke with my boss and was given the Adobe suite and then I created a catalog to showcase all of the products available. There is no way to track how much revenue this document created but I can say that it was definitely a lot and sales became a lot easier once we had this catalog. I did this project solo and with no additional money for the extra hours I worked. I knew that it was needed and could tell that no one else would be able to do it.
I tell this story to hopefully help with my problem which is I know I have value but it is not based in one discipline. Right now I have a headline up as “ Small business utility player looking for a new team”, I don’t know if that translates exactly what I am. I need help with defining myself and finding where would be a good fit for me. Anyone else struggle with this? I'd also like to mention I'm 40 , I have a bachelors in a completely unrelated field that I probably can't go back into because it's been so long. Any help is appreciated!
I would recommend thinking about what motivates you or excites you about a new employer and then searching based on that!
