Looking for advice on signing up with an executive recruiter.
After a year of trying to find a new position, multiple résumé rewrites and LinkedIn profile updates by a professional, and taken more classes to upskill, I am so frustrated and disappointed in the results. I am trying not to get too discouraged but I just can’t do this on my own anymore. Has anyone signed up with a recruiting agency and if so how did you decide which one to choose? I’ve heard that you shouldn’t sign up with everyone out there and I want to make the right decision.
For background, I am currently a marketing director in the industrial products area and I am looking for a remote position. I live in a rural area and on-site options are not a possibility here.
Thank you in advance for your help!
I had a great experience with someone who decided she wanted to work with me. She saw an ad I had placed in an relevant magazine, liked the attributes of my company and contacted me directly. I did not have a job advertised and had not considered it (yet), but she was so impressive - I created the job. And she was one of the best hires I have ever made.
Find your dream company or companies, do the research and contact the marketing department. Find out how you can work for them. It might pay off - if nothing else, you may be able to be a remote contractor for them.
I’m going to honest, recruiters don’t find jobs for people they find jobs for the companies they work for or clients they have (that’s who is paying them). If recruiters worked for people, then people would have to pay them. Keep your LinkedIn up to date and make sure it says “open to roles”. The job search is rough on anyone. The right role will come up!!
I, too am experiencing the same frustrations. I am working for a local recruiting agency, but there are times they don't fully understand the need for higher income and immediate placement. The agency might try to place you in a temporary assognment, although you expressed the need for a direct hire. If I truly have to, I will use more than one agency because what one doesn't have the other one will (or might). Hang in there!
